Dimplex Electric Fireplace Review

Easy Installation

This Dimplex electric fireplace is an absolute breeze to install, there was no installation required at all on our end. All you have to do is take it out of the box and plug it into your regular outlet in the room and you’re good to go. You can even fit it into your existing fireplace area if there is a large enough space.

If you haven’t got a wall outlet nearby then you can plug it into an extension cord but make sure you’re not running other appliances off it as this can cause the circuit to trip.

If you haven’t got one already then we’d recommend buying a fire surround for the backdrop of your electric fireplace and painting it black to enhance the visuals of the fireplace when it’s switched on.

However, this isn’t essential and you can just place your fireplace in a central area of the room, plug it in and use it as you would with a space heater.

As it doesn’t release any emissions, you don’t need to install any vents or build a chimney in the living room just for this little device so it’ll save you a whole load of time and money.

Appearance

The impressive thing about this electric fireplace is that it looks almost realistic due to the 3D flame technology built into it. Not only do the flames look pretty, but Dimplex has meticulously designed the logs and the coal to glow with embers to mimic a real fire to bring warmth and light to any living room.

The electric fireplace has a classic look about it and when installed in a pre-existing fireplace it looks very traditional, which is great if you’re not a fan of these ultra-modern electric fireplaces that are being released nowadays.

Although, due to the black finish of the fireplace, it will still look seamless and timeless within a more modern home.

Apart from the lack of crackling noises, if someone were to walk into a room and see the electric fireplace they may not be able to guess that it’s not real at first glance. So if you’re looking for something that looks as close to a real fire as possible then this model will do the job.

Unlike some other electric fireplaces, this Dimplex model only has one flame effect setting so you won’t be able to switch it up to create different moods.

You can’t complain about the lack of versatility with the flame appearance considering this is one of the more basic models from the Dimplex brand - plus we still think the one flame setting is enough on its own.

Heat

The fireplaces distribute heat into the room through the fan built into the top which forces hot air out and can heat a room of up to 400 square feet. We placed it in our moderately-sized living room and it did the job well, however, those with more open plan living spaces may struggle to heat the entire area.

The heating function is sufficient if you’re looking to lower your thermostat a few degrees whilst you’re relaxing in the room your fireplace is in. However, this won’t be a replacement heat source for your home like a real fireplace would be as it cannot distribute as much or as high heat.

The fireplace has 2 heat settings, low and high heat but no thermostat what the temperature of each setting is.

The heater is at the top of the unit, which doesn’t seem like the ideal place for heat dispersal as heat rises so the bottom area of the fireplace is cool, so if you’re looking for something that will warm your feet whilst sitting on the couch then this will not do.

You can make the most out of your fireplace as you’ll be able to use it all year round including in the height of summer as you can run the flames with the heat setting off, so you can create a warm cozy ambiance but without the room getting too stuffy.

Convenience

The heater is controlled by remote control, so you won’t have to worry about getting up each time to manually change the setting on the model. You can leisurely switch it on and off from the comfort of the couch whenever you want.

Being able to have heat and flames in an instant is so convenient especially when you compare it to the process of starting a real fire with a wood burner.

You won’t have to constantly get up and add more logs to the fire to keep it burning and to increase the heat output. Not only that but you’ll also need to chop your own firewood or go to the store and buy some to use for your fireplace.

Once you’re done using your Dimplex electric fireplace in the cozy winter evenings, you can just switch it off from the remote and head to bed straight away whereas a wood-burning fireplace will require you to manually put the flames out which can take some time and is such a chore when you’re super sleepy and just want to hit the hay.

Economical

As well as being more convenient, this Dimplex electric fireplace is also more economically efficient, not only because it only costs around $0.019 an hour to keep the flames and heat running but also because that all the heat it puts out is distributed into the room whereas a traditional fireplace loses heat through the vents or the chimney.

If you’re just after the ambiance that the flames create without the heat, then it’ll cost you a mere $0.02 per hour of running it.

You’ll probably barely notice the difference in your utility bills once you’ve installed and started using your fireplace, especially if you’ve also started to turn down the temperature on your thermostat during the day.

These costs are beyond minimal when you compare them to the cost of having to continuously buy logs and coal for a wood-burning fireplace and that’s without considering the cost of gas to drive to pick them up or delivery costs to bring them to your home.

Safety

An electric fireplace is one of the safest fireplaces to have in your home if you’ve got pets and children and this Dimplex model is no different.

As the flames aren’t real on an electric fireplace, you won’t have to worry about incomplete combustion which can cause highly dangerous carbon dioxide, especially dangerous when humans are exposed to it over a long period.

The lack of fumes also means those with asthma or other respiratory problems won’t have to struggle with breathing like they would with a real fire.

As the heater is the area that distributes the heat and not the logs or the flames then it is safe for children and pets to go near the unit without the risk of burning themselves like they would with real flames.

The glass one the fireplace is also cool to the touch so you’ll be assured no accidents will happen with any pets or younger children.

This Dimplex electric fireplace is safe if you happen to leave it running all night, however, we’d always recommend trying to turn it off whenever possible if you’re going to bed or leaving your home.

Pros

  • Easy to set up - No installation or following long instructions required
  • Ultra-safe - No real flames, cool to the touch, and no emissions released into your home
  • Attractive and realistic design - Creates a warm cozy ambiance without real flames
  • Good heat distribution - Warms up medium-sized rooms very well
  • Remote control functioning - No need to get up to control settings

Cons

  • Only 2 heat settings - Doesn’t allow you to have personalized temperatures

Final Thoughts: Would We Recommend?

If you’re looking to get a new electric fireplace when you're home then we’d recommend this Dimplex model, especially if you’re looking to stay on a budget. It offers good heat distribution and looks as realistic to a real fireplace as you could get in this day and age.

Its attractive design that’ll blend seamlessly into any home with minimal installation and no emissions begs the question, why bother with real fireplaces now?
